Our Veterans Day Parade in Burlington was memorable in a number of methods. It was festive and colourful; the horses and assured crews have been elegant; the outdated and new John Deere tractors have been a delight; and the participation of the youth all through the procession added hope and an infectious vitality. After which there have been the native and state veterans posters honoring these killed in service to our nation, carried and displayed by younger and outdated alike. The veterans weren’t suckers or losers!
The stakes are excessive. Our subsequent presidential election is lower than a yr away. And being silent is as a lot a political assertion as talking out. I see that the US is fighting autocracy and anti-democratic ideology – regrettable and horrible. This participation within the authorities of the few, by the few and for the few is hogwash – disrespectful to our constitutional republic primarily based on the ideas of freedom, democracy and the rule of regulation; disrespectful to all our veterans who gave their lives to serve this very best.
The election in 2024 shall be a easy alternative: Democracy or autocracy. Vote like your life is determined by it. It does, and it is your alternative.
