Re: “Carry grizzlies again to the North Cascades” [Nov. 14, Opinion]:
Chris Morgan’s overly emotional plea to convey grizzlies again to the North Cascades had my “coronary heart charge racing” with despair and worry. I do not need grizzlies within the mountains close to the Stehekin Valley, the Methow Valley, or any of the opposite stunning climbing areas within the North Cascades. I’m conscious that the bears might be launched into a really massive wilderness. However they will not know the boundaries of that space, and once they’re hungry, they’re going to discover the dumpsters in our communities.
I do not suppose this proposal is nice for the ecological objective of persuading folks to take higher care of our planet. It solely proves that the federal government (Nationwide Park Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service) will do what they suppose is greatest for us to “shield extra wild areas” – wild areas most individuals cannot get to and would not wish to want in the event that they suppose grizzlies thrive there.
Morgan says that for him, “grizzlies have at all times been a unifier for giant, daring, stunning concepts.” It’s boastful and boastful on the similar time. This is a cool concept: Do not convey grizzlies again to the North Cascades.
